Hic Et Nunc
A series of one-day laboratories in performative intervention, building towards an intervention in the public space as part of the festival.
When:
Saturdays 23 June, 28 July, 8 September, 22 September
10am to 4 PM

Where:
Circus Factory, Centre Park Rd, Cork

Open to participants from all backgrounds.
You're welcome to join any of the four sessions.

What is the purpose of the labs?
Participants are asked to consider the Public Space: i.e. as an architectural space, a collection of physical buildings, infrastructures and pedestrian routes, as an institutional site of coded signs that we respond to, as as a historical site, as a tourist attraction, as a space to consider collective/individual ways of being etc.

Through collaboration participants are encouraged to explore their individuality and creativity with new ways of moving through space and to initiate the rupture of "normal" social codes towards a potential "other" way of living-sharing-inhabiting the world Through collaboration participants are encouraged to explore their individuality and creativity with new ways of moving through space and to initiate the rupture of "normal" social codes towards a potential "other" way of living-sharing-inhabiting the world.

The aim of the laboratory is to enable participants to expand their own individual practice by encouraging experimentation and activism.
What will the day look like?
The session will start with morning of guided exercises and games that engage with presence, trust, shared experiences, and connection with the audience - essential to initiate a dialogue within the public space.

In the afternoon we will work collaboratively, splitting up into small groups and creating small activist interventions by developing street signs and responding to them.

Following this, each small group will "teach" their sign and the interventions created to the rest of the group.

To finish we will respond together to all the signs creating the posse that, moving through space, will engage audiences in the future public interventions.
Alter'd State
Sunday 23 September, 1 to 2:30 PM

This intervention in the public space will involve all willing participants of the previous four laboratories.

A specific site will be identified in the Cork City Centre and the Alter'd State will be declared by marking the ground with a dotted line, within this space we will place all the street signs developed during the laboratories prior to the intervention.

There will be a check-point physically present at its entrance and exit and Ken, the collaborator for this intervention and the Alter'd State Mayor for the duration of the intervention, will welcome both the participants of the labs and the pedestrian audiences to enter this state (State of being and becoming), by giving official "free-passes" or temporary visa that will last for the intervention's duration. The Mayor will also take selfies with each temporary refugee of the Alter'd State at the gate.

The participants from all 4 labs will be "re-arranged" into new smaller groups of 3-5 participants and will enter, dressed as normal pedestrians, the new state. They will freely move within it to complete the loop of the whole intervention, reacting to the signs previously placed as a posse.

This will become a living and live social experiment, in which the artist hopes, new behavioral patterns can be instigated in the audiences by the performative posse.

To conclude all the participants will regroup at the end of the looped walk, at the check point, where the Mayor will proclaim the end of the State and erect a Wall of Remembrance, wall pasting all the selfies taken with the Alter'd State citizens on a wall.
